For the HeART of Animals
Thanks to all who made this event a huge success!
The Humane Society of Southern New Mexico’s first annual “For the HeART of Animals” gala live and silent auction fund-raiser was held Friday, June 20, 5:00–9:00 p.m. at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. We asked area artists to make a generous gift of their time and talent by donating a piece of their artwork to this worthy cause. Tickets were $55 and proceeds from the event will help fund many of HSSNM's efforts to save animals' lives through fostering and adoption and to promote spaying and neutering as well as animal education.

Host a LifeSavers Adoption Event!
The LifeSavers project assists local businesses and organizations to sponsor adoption events for dogs and cats that are awaiting forever homes. These can be at the business location or any other off-site event. Add this to your annual calendar of events!
Vic Villalobos, owner of American Classifieds at 580 south Valley Drive held the very first Lifesavers adoption event on-site at American Classifieds on Friday, November 2nd, 2007. Wow what a great event! Spay Neuter Action Program, Better Life and Horse and Hound were also at the event. Vic Villalobos and American Classifieds is one of our best examples of people and businesses who are creating a better day for all of us in the Mesilla Valley. Thanks also to so many of their customers who came by to help out and cheer us on. Way to go team!
CITY OF LAS CRUCES hosted a LifeSavers event at Apodoca Park on February 2, 2008. Kudos to all the animal control staff and city employees that made this event a success. Big thanks to Terrence Moore, city manager and his staff for leading the way for other organizations to follow by sponsoring this LifeSavers event. Lots of friendships were built in our work together during the event. You Rock City of Las Cruces!

Pet Expo of 2007
- Saturday, Oct. 28, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Dona Ana County residents and lots of folks from outside of the county enjoyed a great weekend at the 2007 Pet Expo at Young Park. Thanks to the Dona Ana County Humane Society, Las Cruces Animal Control, SNAP and the many other organizations that planned and pulled off a fun event for us all.
The Humane Society of Southern New Mexico rolled out the first public display of our “Wall of Hope”. This 13 panel educational display includes over 12,000 representational photos of animals euthanized in Dona Ana County each year. The many things we can do as pet parents and as a community are included in the display. The Las Cruces Boys & Girls Club pitched in with some tremendous help assembling the Wall of Hope, and many of these youth were on hand during the Expo to help children and adults alike with understanding the terrible toll that pet overpopulation is taking on our community and upon the animals.
Candlelight Vigil - Friday, Oct. 27, 5 - 7 p.m. The Las Cruces Boys and Girls Club also helped us kicked off the 2007 Expo with our first annual “Candle Light Vigil” at the Wall of Hope the evening before the Expo. There were so many shared stories and remembrances of our four legged companions that were shared by the people gathered in a circle of hope with candles aglow. This was a touching demonstration of our shared commitment to our sentient friends. The Candle Light Vigil helped us say good bye again to those who are gone and to cope with the thousands of opportunities for real companionship that are lost to euthanasia of unplaced companion animals each year. Thanks to the many people who came and helped us join together in our deep commitment to change the future for the thousands of companion animals who are lost and in urgent need of our help. |
